...imagination bodies forth the forms of things unknown [Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night's Dream]

A blog of discovering clay. A chance to explore the philosophy and practicalities of twenty-first century pots. A collection of leads for my students and myself.

some of my source materials on Pinterest

I’m a devotee of collecting visual source material (and tactile and auditory and olfactory and gustatory, for that matter) that provides a deep well for me to draw inspiration from. The internet is a goldmine for the eyes and ears, and my own Tumblr dashboard has been a motherlode.

Here are my growing collections over on Pinterest that I draw on for my own pots. I feel comfortable sharing them now that each board has several dozen images, each a gem in its own right. Happy browsing!

Ancient and Fine (historical work of all eras and cultures)

Makes Me Wonder (nature in its overabundant range of forms)

Spare Beauty (making the most with less)

More is More (Mies, Schmies)

Contemporary Clay

Pure Function (utility at the forefront, loveliness in service of the utility)

Yuan Dynasty Vase
