A blog of discovering clay. A chance to explore the philosophy and practicalities of twenty-first century pots. A collection of leads for my students and myself.

Kismet via tumblr

I started a clay blog with small intentions - a catchall for myself and my pottery students, a jumping off place for ideas.

I never factored in the sheer pleasure I’d find logging into my dashboard* and seeing an abundance of images, some new to me and some like old friends, filling the well, priming the pump. Images from around the world and beyond, from today and the 14th c. and prehistory. All laid out in that typical, spare, good-looking Tumblr way.

You don’t even have to blog! Just get you a Tumblr account and start following some of the aesthetic souls who contribute dozens of images each week from the worlds of biology, design, art, geology, architecture, history, crafts…it’s wide open.

Start by following these folks:

http://referenceforww2.tumblr.com/
http://cinoh.tumblr.com/
http://stirringupthemeltingpot.tumblr.com/
http://onceandfuturething.tumblr.com/
http://geologise.tumblr.com/

Then go to your dashboard et voila! an instant load of compelling images, a spring-fed well continually refilling for your benefit.

Poke around on their blogs, follow who they follow and your dashboard will only get richer.

*for you non-tumblrers, the dashboard is the interface on tumblr from which you can post blogs and keep up with the posts of the tumblogs you follow. The only way to view a dashboard is to get someone to let you see theirs, or better yet get one of your own.
